Vaccine Passports & Promoted Segregation

Vaccine passports seemed unthinkable just two short years ago, but today are a topic of heated debate and a method of extreme segregation of American citizens. Since vaccines have come into existence, they have primarily been a topic of discussion between an individual and a medical professional. Never has it been expected that an American citizen shows a card proving vaccination status to participate in such events as eating indoors at a restaurant, attending a movie, or working.
In recent months, Broward County Public Schools went directly against the orders of Governor Ron Desantis and required masks for all students within the district. With BCPS’ history of not following our state leadership, many parents and individuals within the community are concerned that vaccine segregation is on the horizon. Vaccine passports are dangerous, and the way of thinking surrounding them promotes segregation.
Summary:
COVID Vaccine Availability & FDA Approval
When the COVID vaccine was first available, the nation breathed a sigh of relief. Now was the time that America could potentially get back to normal. The road to normalcy, however, has proven a bit more winding than many had assumed. Although many believe the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines have been recently FDA approved, this information is false. The vaccine recently approved is called Veklury (remdesivir), and it is not readily available in the US.
This fact and many other personal and medical reasons have caused a “vaccine hesitancy” across the nation, even in Florida. In response, some states have put a vaccine passport into place, requiring individuals within those states to show proof of vaccination to participate in typical daily events. Although Florida has banned vaccine passports, it’s much more difficult to ban the way of thinking the passports promote.
Are Broward Residents Protected from Vaccine passports?
Although Governor Desantis has put in legislation to stop vaccine passports in FL, it is difficult to know whether the way of thinking surrounding the passports can be stopped. A simple Google search of “unvaccinated must be held accountable” will clearly show the thinking against people expressing concern for taking an unapproved medication. When masks were no longer mandated across the state, a few districts- Broward included- went against the grain and chose to require individuals to wear them regardless. Biden also has stated that the current administration is “losing patience” with unvaccinated individuals. Both have many concerned that the same methods of thinking will come into play when looking at vaccinated vs unvaccinated individuals, including students and teachers.
These mandated vaccines are not approved by the FDA, nor do we truly know what the long term side effects, if any, will come from the medication. We must stand together in Broward County and across the country.
Vaccine Passports promote a new world of segregation! The time to pay attention and elect strong leadership is now. Whether vaccinated or unvaccinated, we all must respect the right of individuals to choose what goes into their bodies.
